Welcome to the Montreal Business Intelligence User Group!!

 

We are an authorised chapter of PASS, serving the technological community using Business Intelligence in the Montreal area. Our goal is to hold monthly meetings to promote knowledge sharing and education of Business Intelligence.

Topic: MDX Trek: First Contact

 

Cube space; the final frontier. In this Star Trek themed introduction to MDX, we will discuss the fundamentals of cube structure and vocabulary, including tuples, members, sets, hierarchies, and more. We will introduce and demonstrate the basic syntax of MDX with queries that include navigating hierarchies and even some time-based expressions. This session will give you the tools you need to write simple, yet meaningful, MDX queries in your own environment. 

 

Presenter Bio:

Mark is an Information Management consultant for Digineer, a Microsoft partner based in Plymouth, MN. He has been working with SQL Server for 5 years and holds the MCITP – Business Intelligence Developer 2008 certification. With a background in Theater and Improvised Comedy, Mark makes sure that his presentations are both informative and fun.

Abstract

SQL Clusters have been around for a while, yet are still not well understood. Active/Active, Active/Passive, what is needed are questions that still cause confusion with DBAs and Systems Administrators. The proliferation of virtualization adds even more to the confusion. This session attempts to clarify some SQL clustering basics and identify some best practices and pitfalls of creating virtual SQL clusters.

 

Bio:

Ilya Rubinshteyn is the Data Center Manager for Competitive Edge Services (CES). He provides senior level, technology related consulting services and manages the services provided by the CES Data Center. His technical expertise includes the design and implementation of technology infrastructure aligned with the needs of the organization and Microsoft SQL database management and tuning. Mr. Rubinshteyn’s SQL experience spans SQL Server 2000 through SQL Server 2008R2 and includes High Availability (HA) and replication technologies. His experience also includes the design, installation, maintenance and support of Microsoft Exchange, Virtualization, and Business Continuity services. This hands-on expertise is complemented by Mr. Rubinshteyn’s experience providing guidance for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, PCI, and Massachusetts Personal Information regulations. Fortune 500 and smaller organizations have benefited from his consulting services.

Mr. Rubinshteyn graduated from Kazakh National Technical Institute in Almati, Kazakhstan with a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering. He is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist for SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtualization, and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt.
